To attempt to get around random disconnects and slow PC startup I deleted the Linksys Wireless Network monitor (which actually disconnects and reconnects when it loads...) and am apparently successfully trying using windows XP SR2 zero configuration with basic driver instead.

Windows updated the Linksys driver dated 19/02/2004

    3.60.7 dated 22/03/2004

The only obvious driver difference is that the maximum speed is now quoted as 54Mbps not the spurious 125Mbps from the Linksys driver. Speedbooster is still enabled in the card driver properties but hard to notice any effect, continuous transfer rate around 2MByte/s (20Mbit?) from my WRT54GS.

I suspect that the driver comes from Broadcom similar to that available here
