I posted this over on the Linksys forum but didn't get a reply. Hopefully I'll be more lucky here...

If I were to reformat a NTFS formatted external USB drive to EXT3 format would the WRT350N recognize it? If so, would there be any advantage to doing that since the WRT350N is Linux-based? My biggest concern right now is the degree of file fragmentation on the NTFS and my inability to defrag it without actually disconnecting the drive from the WRT350N and hooking it directly to a Windows computer to perform the defrag. I thought I read somewhere that the EXT3 file system is extremely less prone to fragmentation. Not having any Linux experience I don't know for a fact that that is true.

I'll answer my own question since no one else has... After a complete reformat of my external drive to EXT3 I found that the WRT350N will not recognize it. I guess it is just FAT or NTFS. I reformatted back to NTFS and all is well again.
