As far as i know and have have you have to solder components off and then onto the board, there have also been other modifications done some including tweaking register settings but i cant say for sure. To be quite honest anymore for me, if i need a router with more memory, i buy a router with more memory.

AFAIK computer RAM will not work. Google for WRT54 hardware mods.
BTW. the V5.1 has 16MB RAM like other GLs, etc. - it's the flash memory that's starved at 2MB only.

Same here (if you'll stuck with the original firmware...what for 32, 64 MB RAM ?). This operation cannot be done at home, by a regular Joe (even a cool_dude). :) But if you really want it, I just google-it for you.

This is just a suggestion. Sell your WRT54G on e-Bay and use that money and some from your own pocket to purchase the Asus WL-500G Premium NAT/Firewall router that comes with 8/32MB Flash/RAM along with a USB2.0 port.

The SD mod increases the Flash space, but I'm not sure if that additional flash space is available to firmware per se. You would surely be able to load additional ipkg or other software on the additional flash space though.

Hello all, i'm tying to understand to learn about this......but what's the benefit of more RAM for this Linksys? What more needs to run or benefit does it provide? Thanks.

@Sheldon00n: Your WRT is a very nifty little computer with minimal power requirements and a small footprint. With more RAM you could run more programs: Some firmware gives you hotspot software, and many other nicies you can run on it, and some people even run asterisk (an IP PABX), or a web site on WRTs. For more traditional use as a router: more RAM gives you more space for tracking connections (so your WRT don't die when you run 100s of torrents), etc.

Oh my! Wow! My jaw was on the floor reading all those 'hacks' that the WRT can do. Run a website on the WRT?? How? Any thread of that to read? WOW!

If you readily have links to just those nicies mentioned above.....oh, please post them. I'm interested. No excited now.
