i have a WRT54G i recently purchased to wireless my house... Is there a way i could configure it to just be used as more of a switch... i have several dynamic ip's from my provider and really want my machines on different ip's.

    Disable DHCP in the router

I think simply disabling DHCP Server on the "Basic Setup" page will do the trick.

Assuming it's the same as with Netgear and DLink, you will need to turn off the DHCP server and make sure you plug the modem into a LAN port...not the WAN port.

    a) I don't know about the firewall...I would doubt if it still acted as a firewall if you're just using it as a switch, but hopefully somebody else knows for sure.

    b) It's IP is still whatever it was before ( or whatever you set it as). So to connect to it, you'll need to manually set one of your computers to 192.168.1.xxx and then access the router. When you're done, set the computer back to get the IP address from the DHCP server.
