I bought a Linksys WRT54G a couple of days ago and I managed to set up my internet connection correctly. I am using Cable internet with a Motorola modem and my connection (using an ethernet cable, so no WiFi tested yet) works fine: great speeds, torrents working correctly, connection is immediately established when booting pc, so there's no trouble here.

The problem is that the router seems to be resetting or rebooting at random moments, causing Windows to make a balloon in the lower right part of the screen telling me that the cable is not connected. This only lasts for 1 second and after that, I can continue browsing again (the most annoying part is that I am disconnected from Messenger or Xbox Live services and need to reconnect every time the router 'crashes').

I've searched the net for a long time finding similar problems, but I keep finding different types of crashes with longer disconnects or more troubles reconnecting. I only have a one second disconnect and then the connection is back. I've checked the LEDs on the router, the LED marked "power" blinks a couple of times, then all the LEDs turn off and a second after that, it's all back in the right way again.
Can anyone tell me what's the right solution to this annoying problem?

Check the version number on the bottom of your router first off... There you should find "WRT54G v5, v5.1, v6, or v7." Depending on which version you have, there may be a firmware update on the linksys website. However, if you have a v5, 5.1 or v6, you can upgrade the firmware to DD-WRT micro. This will most likely solve a lot of your issues.

Will do. Are there 3rd party firmware updates possible for V7?

Anybody else got suggestions? I heared that firmware updates will not solve this problem, especially for V7.

does it crash when not using bittorrent? I am guessing the issue is it cannot handle to many connections through the router.

No, i thought that might be the problem too, but this also occurs when browsing the net.

    No solutions? :(

I thought Linksys was an A-brand, but even the most crappy routers work better than this one...
