WRT54G-D2: Question

I´m going to buy the WRT54G-D2, because atm I have a D-Link DI-624+ and yes, it´s crap (however I dont remember what price it had, I got it from my provider Arcor when I changed my connection to DSL; I think it was for free ^^ ).
I heard that the WRT54G-D2 is a german WRT54G v3.1 . This is important because I want a version which can use the firmware of 3rd persons, because I heard that they are much better than the original one. So can you tell me that my informations are right? The standard WRT54G is not in many shops in Germany and I can´t be sure that I wouldn´t get a V5.0, right?
If not, should I buy the WRT54GS or a WRT54GL?

Another Question: Which firmware should I use? I read the comparison-chart between hyperWRT, DD-WRT, Alchemy and Talisman. Nice chart, but it doesn´t tell a noob like me very much. I want a simple firmware which is stabile, fast and offers the function "Adjustable Xmit Power" (which all of the four have), because I think I will use 100 mW (that´s the maximum allowed in Germany). It doesn´t have to have 100000 functions, I only need the basics.
I heard hyperWRT is not very different to the original one, it has just a few more features + it is faster and more stabile. So it should be the right one, right? Or do you think there would be a better one for me?
Talisman is no choise for me, because I am not willing to pay 20$ each year.

Ah, btw.: Is my WLAN PCI Card Sitecom WL-121v2 ok? (54 Mbit/s)

So long as it is a standard 54Mbps WiFi card, it will be OK to use under any WRT54G. It shall also work under the WRT54GS, except it will only operate without the speedbooster option.

I was told all DLink routers are trash, except the latest one with the MIMO which is a new re-designed product by some sort of DLink consultants.

You really won't know until you open the box to read its label. Even that doesn't guarrantee.

I would go with DD-WRT mini, YMMV.

If you think this one is better, go for it. It really doesn't hurt just to try unless you incorrectly flash your router that renders it to useless, a.k.a brick.

That´s not what I wanted to know (ok, I didn´t ask my Question very precisely, therefore my English is not good enough ;)). I am sure it will work (it worked even with my bad D-Link, but not very good as I told you, but I am not sure if it was only caused by the router or by both?) but will it work GOOD with the WRT54G-D2? Could be possible that someone heard something about Sitecom or even specially about this card. Or isn´t it very well known? Don´t know because I just grabbed one WLAN-Card in Saturn...

Ups, another answer too ^^ Thanks.
Yes, I didn´t hear good thinks about D-Link, too.

Not guarranteed 3.1? That´s not good. But I heard it on some different pages (no, I don´t have a link). But I am going to buy it on Amazon so I can send it back in the first 14 days.

DD-WRT was in my thoughts, too. If you and the others say it is better, I will get DD-WRT.

About flashing the router: Is it sure when you don´t do it like an idiot? ;) I am NOT an idiot, I can follow instructions :>

Ah yes, I didn´t say that I am a gamer and I use filesharing. DD-WRT and hyperWRT are ok for it, or?

Ok, I ordered the WRT54G-D2 this day and I will tell you which version it is, when I got it (Amazon says 04.-06.01.06).
    I will use DD-WRT.
