I'm having problems sharing my internet connection.

The real fly in the ointment is that my ADSL modem is USB only, and so I can't plug it into the "internet" socket on the WRT54G.

At the moment, I have the ADSL modem connected to my downstairs PC ( - Windows 2000) which is connected by an Ethernet cable to the Linksys ( in port 1.

I have an upstairs PC (Windows XP) which I wish to connect to the internet. I have it connecting to the Linksys OK using a static IP (, at which point Windows networking etc. works fine.

The problem comes when I try to set up Internet Connection Sharing, which requires that the upstairs PC obtain a DHCP address from the downstairs PC, which doesn't seem to happen. It says the DHCP server cannot be found.

Is what I'm trying to do possible, or am I just going to have to buy an ADSL modem with an Ethernet port?

Thanks in advance for any help.
