To the best of my knowledge, it needs to be on the same channel so that the routers can communicate. Otherwise they will be on different frequencies, halting traffic between them. Wireless clients should be able to switch between them without problems that way.

But why are you wanting them on different channels, just out of curiosity?

have you tried boosting the wireless output power of the router?
and what firmware are you using?

I have a firmware alchemy v1.0,. power output is 60mW on both, when I set smaller then the signal strengh i better but then more packets are lost, What are you thinking , what I have to do?

try lowering the fragmentation threshold under the advanced wireless settings, but be careful with it and only make very small adjustments at a time. That may help it out. I am using 150 mW on both my routers. Cranking it higher than 60 may help too. Let me know how it works out.
