I currently have a Netgear router set up but it does not efficiently cover my entire house. Therefore I purchased a WRT54G and I am trying to get it to work as a repeater to expand the wifi coverage to areas that the Netgear router wont reach. I have installed the Alchemy v1.0 firmware and trying to follow the instructions at Engadget, but it is not working properly. Are these directions outdated or am I doing something wrong?

Yeah outdated by a year or more.

If you can, just run a WIRE between the 2 units to have a wired backbone, that works best and it's simple. Then you just set the 2nd unit to act as another AP covering new area.

If you really need the repeater unit both units will need to support WDS (Wireless Distribution System) mode, not just one of them. You don't mention which Netgear you have or if it has WDS, so it's difficult to say.

I'm not in frount of my home computer right now so I can't say the model of the router but I do know that it does not support WDS. To wire the two routers together woukd be too difficultand mesy so I guess I'm just stuck with bad reception for now. Thanks for your help!
