I just reset my wireless. I changed my SSID, my IP address and a few other small settings.

When I try to change my router password, it shows me a page saying that it accepts the new password, then it automatically reverts to a 16 character password. I can't make it stop- I'm so annoyed!

I just want to secure enable my router so other people can't log on. I don't even know if I am doing the right thing.

    Sorry if this is dumb!

I think you might be confusing the default action with whats really going on. When you change the password it should accept it and then refresh the page. Upon refresh it will look like the password a bunch of *'s, which has no affect on what the actual password is. Now if it is not actually saving the password then something else is going on.

    oic- well that is tricky

So here is the real deal. I can't make the connection stop showing up as unsecured. I thought changing the router password would make that happen.

Sorry I am stupid- thanks for helping me :D

The connection showing unsecured is the wireless LAN yes? then encrypt the wifi signal.

    have a look here: http://www.linksysdata.com/ui/WRT54G/v1-v4/4.00.7/Wireless-security.htm

WPA/WPA2 PSK is prefered, as long as your wireless device you are connecting to the router supports this protocol.

as to the password issue. clear out your cookies, and make sure any anti virus/web filter content ignores your routers IP address. (ie trusted site)
