We always have use HyperWRT on all our 54G v2, v3's. However now we have a bunch of v4's. The reson we used Hyper on all our Warts going out was for the extra power boost and being able to push all power to one antenna.

It seems that Hyper dosn't work on version 4's. (the one with the n00b button on the front). It always errors out. (and thankful somebody has pics on how to jump pins 15 and 16 to tftp.. that worked).

So what firmware should I use on these to achive the two main functions we need?
    - I'd like to just use one quick flash - not a couple flashes.

Yep, Tofu 12 will run great on your wrt54g v4. I have it running on my wrt54g v1.1 and v4 without any issues.

No 3rd party firmware will work on a V5, since it no longer runs Linux(it runs a proprietary VxWorks) and has half the memory fo previous G's.

Your best bet is to return the V5 and see if you can find another V4 or prior or the new GL version(which does run Linux, that's what the L stands for) and if not, just buy a GS V4(or prior, which is better, if you can find it), since it still uses Linux and 3rd party firmware will work on it(you'd have to use Thibor's version of HyperWRT which is basically the same as Tofu's, but for the GS).

    Ok, thanks.
So it sounds like it's time to switch from Linksys to something els for re-sale'n. If there are any routers out there that support GPL.

Its sad when a company pulls a horrible idea from the hat.

    Burke -

The WRT54G V5 is a non-GPL router, but Linksys still makes the WRT54GL (which is a rebranded version of the WRT54G V4, a most excellent Linux/GPL router), and the WRT54GS which is also Linux based.

In fact, the WRT54G V4 (no longer available at stores unless you get lucky), the WRT54GL, and the WRT54GS V4 are all the same identical hardware.

So, by all means, DO avoid the WRT54G V5, it's a hunkajunk and no mistake. But Linksys still makes some good routers.
