I'm just wondering if this mod is possible on a V5 according to the same instructions since their hardware is almost identical? I'm no Electrical Engineer, so I wouldn't know how to find the pins if I had to do it myself. Sad

Weellllll, if everything works out, you can use a micro build, add an SD driver and then that allows you to mount additional packages such as OpenVPN and its dependencies into the SD (which wouldn't otherwise fit on the flash).

Basically, I'm trying to create a VPN endpoint using a V5. From what I've heard, the flash storage is the limitation for this. If I could get around this by using an SD card, then I could do that.

tbh it would be easier just to buy a second hand WRT54G v1-4 or GL of ebay. or a befsv41/befsx41

I know, but no Australian sellers sell a V4 anymore. :( I think I might just use my GS V4 which is my main router atm and install a micro build on my V5 so that it can be my backup router in case something goes wrong....

Yeah, there are. My mate just got one for me. I'll play with it when I get it in my grubby little hands. ;-)
  8. 54GS v5.1 SD mod HELP PLS

Exactly this what I after, but no one helps and I don't belive it actually no one did it when this is exactly that series where you NEED that SDcard because of the 2 mb flash :(

I tried to follow this http://kiel.kool.dk/ howto but the RP3 tag (http://kiel.kool.dk/pics/solderpoint_1_annotated.jpg) is in another place and as I can see this serve different purpose.

    Some1 could help????
I can post pictures if needed.

    v6 sd mod

I am anxiously waiting for more information on this mod. Has anyone been able to successfully install this mod on a wrt54gv6 yet?
  10. any progress?

I started this thread long ago but as I see noone interested to make SDcard mod for this WRT :(

I bet lot of people could use it. I still mount everything with samba but it would be better storing the binaries on SDcard.

I don't think there is a major following for hardware modding a version 5/6. Most users out there try to avoid these versions if/when they can. If you really want to have storage capability you should look at the WRTSL54GS which has a USB port that could provide all the storage you need and runs linux firmware.
