Due to a recent lightning strike which fried 3 of the four ports in my old WRT54G (pre V5) I bought a new one just to be on the safe side. Alas, I didn't realize that they'd changed to Vx Works at V5 :frown: . My boys complained of slow/laggy performance in their on-line games and I observed the same in mine. I just thought the network was having load issues until I tried to download a file from a LOCAL server on my home subnet and got landline speeds!!. My speed tests to the outside world all showed fine (4.5 Mbit/sec - Cable) but downloading from my own server on my own subnet was glacial! I tried new NIC cards, cables, ports, no change. Finally, I brought out the old router and hooked it up to a workstation and the server - Blazing fast. So I checked the Linksys site. My NEW WRT54G was running firmware version 1.00.6 and the latest is 1.00.9. The release notes mentioned something about local loopback issues and gaming issues so I risked a reflash. That went well and cured the local speed problem. It also seems to have fixed the gaming server problem as advertised (time will tell but the initial "ping" values seem to be good.) Anyone that has recently purchased a Linksys WRT54G with the new Vxworks OS should probably upgrade their firmware if it is pre 1.00.9. My fresh off the shelf release (1.00.6) was the one just prior to the latest in the release notes. FWIW & YMMV of course.

I am glad to hear that solved your problems. I had a WRT54G version 5 that came with firmware 1.00.1 and I could only make VoIP calls and not receive them. I tried upgrading the firmware to 1.00.6 and then I could not even make any VoIP calls.

So it sounds that things are getting fixed with the newer firmware for the version 5..... Almost makes me wish I had not done an RMA return of it with Linksys for a WRT54GL.

Just kidding :) I am keeping the GL
