I just recently did an exchange at Staples for a newer Linksys WRT54G, since my last one overheated and I noticed that the wax covering the coils melted off. I didn't do an RMA, however I do have a Product Replacement Plan that I got from Staples. No questions asked when I exchanged it. However now, I have a version 6 WRT54G, so I was wondering if/when Thibor will release a firmware that will work on the v6 Routers.

Oh, and my Serial Number prefix is CDFD.

The only firmware I am aware of that runs on the wrt54g versions 5 & 6 is dd-wrt micro.

You will need to use the following instructions to get it installed (unless you really want to use the JTAG method):

It actually works pretty well, however the resulting OS is limited. You do gain the ability to increase readio power, you get a shell, etc...

    Hope that helps....

It helps a bit, what I really liked about the HyperWRT/Thibor firmware was it still had the 'feel' of the Linksys interface, plus the nice additions like UPNP, WOL, and all those nifty wireless options.

Oh well. I did notice that Linksys has the GPL Code available from the WRT54G v6 Firmware download page, maybe that would help in the development of a HyperWRT/Thibor firmware for the v5-v6 routers?

nope, it won't. i don't have any plans to cater for the v5+

Even if Thibor did do a release for v5+ WRTs, chances are it would be lacking too many features to even be worth it. He would have to remove several of the components that make Thibor15c what it is. (Possibly UPNP and WOL)

    You should'a gotten a GL Nick! The V5 thru 7 is mem-starved.
[Edit] which is why Thibor (or anything other than dd-wrt micro) can't run on it.

Oh, and the GPL code on the Linksys site is not that of the V6 - it's a mishap... as the V5 thru 7 runs VxWorks - no GPL.

Your best bet would be to take it back to staples and look for a WRT54GL if you're looking to use third party software...

I'm doing pretty well with DD-WRT v23 SP2 Micro right now, I think I'll keep my PRP with Staples, however, and maybe sometime in the future exchange it for a newer model GL. Not sure, however if the PRP covers other models, or if it goes by price.
