I have a WRT54G v8 router with one desktop wired and a laptop connecting wireless. Several times each day, my laptop will lose all connectivity and under the "Wireless Networks" it shows "No Wireless networks available" and tells me to refresh. When I refresh, it still doesn't find the router. Sometimes, restarting the computer works, but not always. Restarting the router doesn't even fix the problem every time. The only sure fix to the problem is waiting. After 5, or sometimes up to 20 minutes, the network will magically become available under my available wireless networks.

I am using a dell inspiron with the 1390 wireless mini-card in it. I made sure the correct driver was installed and everything.

While the router has DHCP enabled, I have my laptop configured with a static IP for port forwarding reasons. Does this have something to do with the problem?

The router is running firmware version 8.00. I'd love to upgrade the firmware to something more functional, but as i've read, it's somewhat difficult and requires extra cables which i don't have.

Any ideas on why this happens?

I was going to come and ask a question regarding a wrt54g v8 myself. Mine has to do with the certificate error when it looks for a radius server (or whatever, Im not a network guy Im a db guy). I guess this error comes up when the router and wireless device have different security settings...
Anyways, I just saw this one that had to do with the same exact router. I am wondering if the v8 router has some problems.
