    I have pruchased the following:

    WRT54G - ver 2.0 hardware running Hyperwart 2.03b
    WRT54GS - ver 1.1 hardware running latest Lynksys firmware
    also trying hyperwart 2.03b

    When I have the WRT54G running my whole network runs smooth as silk, thats XBOX live and my sons computer running World of Warcraft and 3 other computers.

    When I swapped out to the WRT54GS everything screached to a big lag. My XBOX was unplayable as well as the World of Worldcraft. I thought the WRT54GS was supposed to be better because of the extra memory. The CPU speeds of both routers are the same at 200 mhz.

    My question is do you think I got a bad WRT54GS? Everything else runs ok except when there is a heavy load then it lags like hell. The WRT54G does not lag at all.

    Please comment.....

    The difference between the two is mostly hardware.

    WRT54G = 4mb flash mem - 8mb chip on board.
    WRT54GS= 8mb flash and 32 on board.

    Both units have the broadcom chipset that enables "Super" G speeds. Linksys uses this only in the GS firmware.
    I would say that it is probably a default setting difference between the two units. Disable loopback and try enabling 802.1x.
    In the end, I would do a side by side check of your settings and possibly a forked firmware like Sveasoft. Sveasoft will be releasing their public version of Alchemy soon and this will support the GS 1.1

    Good Luck.....
