Hi, I just moved into this townhouse and my roomie has a WRT54G, v1.00.4, Dec. 8, 2005

I doubt the firmware has ever been touched....

my issue is gaming, I play games that are ping sensitive, every 2 mins in quake 3 or quake 4 my pink spikes and then goes back down, no matter what server I'm on. I know if I went and bought a nice gaming router and adaptor id have no problem, but I thought these wrt54g routers were highly configurable and I could just play with the firmware..... so any suggestions... im also using a Wireless USB adaptor

    D-Link Airplus G DWL-G122.....

I have a linksys g speedbooster with range extender but I couldnt get it to join the network for hell or high beans.

Doesn't DD-WRT have a firmware for the v5. I'm not sure but I thought I read that somewhere. But It is definately worth the money to go get a WRT54GL or even the WRTSL54GS.

Hi, dont mean to intrude, but i think i have a version 6 ?(im not good with computers). Anyways, ive tried, but when i attempt to use this with my xbox 360, i cant pass the DNS test. Ive tried entering the DNS codes manually, to no avail. Is there a way around this? Can this "firmware" stuff help?

Hernando, the firmware is definately worth looking into. It solves a lot of problems and adds new features. I use HyperWRT I have a WRT54GS v. 1. But since you have a version 6, You can not use it. But I think the DD-WRT Micro might work on your router. Just go to the DD-WRT Forums and ask someone there. They should be able to help you out. I would but, I have never used the DD-WRT firmware. There are enough people who know exactly what to do on there. But as Toxic posted there is new Linsys Official firmware that does fix some bugs on the v. 5 and 6's.
