WRT54GL 1.1 with latest official firmware refuses to forward

    My router suddenly started ignoring my port forwards. I've setup an svn-server which worked fine for weeks. I've been trying everything for a week now. I'd appreciate any pointers. Websurfing, utorrent and all works great. It's just my svn and ftp servers that can't be accessed through the router.

    The setup is as follows:
    ADSL Modem (Bridged)
    WRT54GL v1.1 (PPPoE setup, linksys 4.30.9 firmware). Port 3690 and 21 forwarded to computer on switch
    |-> 1 computer
    |-> Switch -> 2 computers (svn/ftp server)

    The switch setup is because I don't want to have two 25 meter cables through the house. Everything works great when bypassing the router. I.e connecting the single computer or the switch directly to the modem.

    I've tried rebooting everything, factory resetting, disabling firewalls.. well everything I can think of.

    Thanks for any help.

    I was thinking of trying a third party firmware like HyperWRT to see if it is the software that messes with me. Do you think that could solve anything or just complicate things?

    hyperwrt is very similar to the default firmware in interface. It just adds functionalities.
    You can try it, it should not change much.
    Also, it seems you need to have no disabled rule in your port forward page, otherwise the corresponding ports get closed. Do you have any?

    Okay, thanks for your answer.

    Do you mean that I shouldn't have any checkboxes under "Enabled" in Applications & Gaming->Port Range Forward unchecked? I only have one rule:

    Application | Start | End | Protocol | IP Address | Enable
    svn | 3690 | 3690 | Both | | Checked

    The rest are empty but unchecked.

    my point was that the rules are enabled in order, top to bottom. If you have an unchecked rule before a checked one, the unchecked one will take precedence and close the port.
    That does not seem to be the case for you.

    What changed before it stopped working? Did your server run windows? You may have received an auto-update that re-enabled the firewall. I had that once and wondered why my routing was not working.

    ah no that is not the case.

    from what I remember the only thing that changed was that I rebooted the router. When it was done, forwarding didn't work anymore so I tried to reset it, factory reset it, restart it and reconfigure it from scratch. still didn't work. so I bypassed it and connected my computers directly to the modem and it all went fine again. reconnected the router and did all the things again and tried different settings like dmz, different subnets, policy rules. nothing helps.

    yes I use my regular windows machine and just start the servers when I need them. like starting an ftp or svn server when I want to transfer files/code to a friend.

    good idea but I checked and the windows firewall was still off.

    is your computer still on a static IP?
    is that static IP the one in the forward?
    DMZ should be a surefire way to get what you want as all the calls are just passed through to your computer, so if that does not work, i'd look at problem with the computer settings too.

    I've tried both static and dynamic. At the moment its dynamic but it matches the forward ip.
    yeah dmz should really make it work but it doesn't. thats when I started thinking if the firmware has been corrupted or something but I suspect that would create larger problems than this. faulty links in the webinterface and stuff.

    you cannot do anything to a dynamic IP.
    switch back to static and retry DMZ first and forwards after that.

    You cannot trust a dynamic IP.

    sorry it took a while. I've factory reset and tried dmz to static ip. no luck.

    A friend recommended DD-WRT. I'll try that because this is hopeless. It's broken.

    Thanks a lot for your help! I'll let you know if the new firmware helped. It can't be a hardware problem.

    Worked immediately with DD-WRT firmware. It feels much better to use. Big TIP for anyone else having trouble with linksys official firmware.
