Hi, I've had Verizon Fios for quite some time now and just stuck with their default Actiontec MI424-WR router. However, the router is on the opposite side of my house from where I usually use my laptop nowadays so I wanted to boost the signal in my work area. SO, I got a Linksys WRT54GL and 100ft of Cat5e cable and hooked the two routers together. I've looked through this forum and online and can't quite figure out what exactly to do so I can turn the Lynksis into an access point [one which has the same security, SSID, ect. as my verizon so I have one network with two routers]. I'm a bit new at this in case you hadn't guessed by now. The firmware on my verizon router is standard, and on the lynksis it's the lynksis default 4.30.11.

I've tried setting the lynksis into router mode, disabling DHCP, plugging the cat5 into the 4th port and I think my problem is that I'm missing steps here. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

To use the GL as an access point. Take the cat 5 cable from your Verizon router and plug it into one of the router ports on the GL........... not the Internet port.

Also you should set the GL to a different channel then what the Verizon router is on.

Ahh ty, I finally got it to work. Thanks for the advice.
Unfortunately, a new problem I now face is that my router is [I think] giving off two signals, one which is the one I want and part of my network, and another unsecured one called lynksis [the standard one], is this even possible or is something else afoot?
