    Hello everyone,

a few days ago I got my new Router, a Linksys WRT54GL and I have a few questions I hope you guys have an answer for:

Is it possible to make kind of a backup of the firmware already installed, so if I do something wrong I'm able to copy back the backup. In other words, is there anything I can do now, before flashing to another firmware, that would help me if I brick it in the future?

My second question? What firmware could you recommend if I want to use QoS? I already saw the QoS Settings of a normal WRT54GL, and also with DD-WRT. I also have heard that many who use QoS have tomato on their router... So, which one should I try, I want to keep the times I have to flash to another firmware as low as possible.

Thanks to everyone who tries to help a noob :)

    1. No, you can only make a backup of the configuration. It would be sweet to be able to make simple backups of firmware setups.

    2. I dont need the use of QOS so I cant help you much here.

You can always go to the Linksys website to download the latest official fireware for your router. Since you just got the router, probability is high that whatever they have on their website is the same as what's on your router.
