The thing is setup as client for wireless connection to gateway router. have saved all config stuff to nvram bin file. Whenever i lose internet connection the wrt54gl ignors my web page access request from the lan-connected pc or mac osx laptops. The only work-around I found is hard reboot of router and reload of saved settings.

Please help put a stop to this BS.

Can you ping the WRT54GL from the LAN connected PCs when you loose internet?
If so, you may have a proxy setup somewhere that directs your browser(s) to look for elsewhere (like on the internet).

Otherwise, some things to look at:
Do you get addresses via DHCP. If so, which device does it come from, and does it not supply a DHCP assigned address (other than to your WRT. It sounds a bit odd that your WRT, setup as a client, would still use as its IP address, although it's entirely possible.

Check your subnetting. Do you not have different subnets and/or duplicate IP addresses.

I have this same issue with a wrv200, but not to this extent, i will loose all ability to connect to it and the tunnels will drop but throughput works just fine and theres no way of knowing unless i try to access it. In my case i would rather have it like yours then i know all is broke. I know its not a good answer but it just is, some of these devices depending on the services you are running, just get hung up somewhere in the software and effectively get chocked up until you hard boot and clear it out. I suppose one way to test it so load some other software version and see if it persists. Then youll know for sure.
