    do i need to upgrade first with another firmware like mini dd-wrt?
    or can i simply go and upload a thibor to it?

    It depends what version you have. I have a GS v.1 so i just flashed straight from the stock firmware. He has a v4 firmware to flash from stock firmware if you have a v 4 router. If you have a v. 5 you can't use 3rd party firmware.

    I would flash from the v4 firmware. Not sure about the GL, but the Thibor v.4 can be flashed from the stock firmware. I am pretty sure the GL is the same as a v.4. Anytime after that you can flash with the regular firmware. To upgrade firmware or what not. Make sure to reset the router before and after the flash to clear the nvram. And only through a wired connection.

    edit: don't use thibor v4 on gl use regular thibor.bin
    my bad sorry

    i cannot upgrade. I've tried with several files:

    - dd-wrt.v23_mini_wrt54g.bin
    - Hyperwrt_GSv4_Thibor14.bin
    - Hyperwrt_GS_Thibor14.bin
    - dd-wrt.v23_mini_generic.bin

    but after a few seconds of uploading the browser show a "Upgrade are failed!" message. What am i doing wrong?

    To upgrade to Thibor on any "G" router:

    1. Load HyperWRT Tofu: http://www.polarcloud.com/tofu/
    2. Load HyperWRT Thibor (14 latest - **NOT the V4 version!**)
    3. From the Admin menu, go to "Factory Defaults" and reset factory defaults and clear NVRAM using the provided option.
    4. Log into your new Thibor router and start keying settings. Enjoy.

    The default Linksys loader has a "check" in it that looks for code patterns that indicate "G" or "GS" router firmware. By default, the Linksys firmware for a "G" will NOT allow you to load firmware for a "GS". That's like getting a free upgrade, you naughty boy! ;)

    Tofu, which has a "G" codepattern and can be loaded from stock firmware, also has a firmware loader that lacks that code pattern checker, so you can load anything you like.

    So, for those of you following along from home, from STOCK firmware, here is the procedure for every WRT54G/GS/GL on the planet:

    "G" up to V4 or "GL": -> Tofu -> Thibor (latest)
    (note: WRT54G V1 is untested on Thibor).

    "G" V5: -> nada, thank you for playing.

    "GS" before V4: -> Thibor (latest)

    "GS" V4: -> Thibor GSV4 edition.

    "GS" V5: -> nothing, you're screwed.

    Then, when Thibor is loaded, ERASE NVRAM using the factory reset function (or the command line if you're feeling super geeky), and rekey your settings.

    Thibor was experimenting with a "G" codepattern, which would allow a straight upgrade from stock. That firmware has not been released.

    It should work. You don't have a v. 5 you have the GL (just making sure). You reset your router(hold reset button unplug router, plug router back in wait 3 seconds and then let go of reset button. This will clear the nvram. You are upgrading through a wired connection not wirelessly? You don't refresh or do anything in the middle of an upgrade, you must not if it is saying upgrade failed just making sure.
