At home, I recieve the signals of two different WRT54GS AP's working in AP mode.

Currently, at home I have a WRT54GS working in AP client (DD-WRT firmware) mode connected to one of these AP's. I can connect to one or the other (just wl join xxx) but I would like to have it connected to both at the same time. If not, I need a second AP in client mode to connect to the second network and connect them together.

    1. Is it fisically possible to have one WRT53GS AP in client mode connected to both networks at the same time? Is it possible to program it?
    2. Would I need another firmware?
    3. Can I do it with Linux commands or do I need to compile another firmware?

No. You can only be associated with one AP at a time. I belive it's a limitation of the wifi standard.

you should try wds were you could link all the ap's together.

I recently read about a way to connect to multiple APs but i dont think it was simultaneous, it was in the case where one connection goes down, it automatically picks up on the second, or third, and so on.

I believe i have a link to that page but at work, i'll look for it tomorrow.
one thing i do remember is that is was REALLY complicated (for me at least  )

i have one question related to your current installation :

I am trying to accomplish what you have currently, that is, connect to hotspots in my neighborhood.

titled : how can i connect to hotspots with WRT54GS ? Vs. Chillispot

I tried client mode, but i could not find networks when i know they are open.

could you help me out in describing the procedure for a newbie.
    should i use netstumbler ?
