I have a 3 week old WTR54GS with basic linksys filmware. I have 2 laptops. I am having issues with speed and disconnecting with only 1 laptop. Both laptops are HP-Compaqs and have built in wireless.
The speed fluctuates between 54 Mbps, 24 Mbps, and 1.0 Mbps. And about every 10 minutes, I loose connection.
    Any help will be appreciated.

It sounds like symptoms of interference. However it could also be the radio in the router is having issues. If possible try a different wireless machine, change channels or even sit right next to the router and see if it still persists.

I also have the same router WRT54GS (v. 6), and with one desktop PC and a wireless Mac laptop, it worked fine. My roommate just got a PC laptop this weekend and now the connection drops if both laptops are on at the same time. If only one laptop is on the network, it is fine. I reset the router 3 times this weekend and it didn't resolve the issue. At one point, I think the ports on the Mac had been forwarded, though I don't know if that or what else may be causing the conflict. Nor do I know how to resolve it so all computers can be on and connected at the same time without any problems.

On each reset, I changed the channel, from 6, to 11, and now it's set to 3. Only 11 channels are available and I'm wondering how much interference are from other wireless networks that maybe on the same channel in the neighborhood (i counted 5 wireless networks last night). And the issue seems to be between the settings of the two laptops.

A friend has visited a few times within the last month and her Mac laptop connected to our network just fine. But when my roommate's new laptop and mine are connected to the network, the connection is dropped.
