I currently have a WHR-HP-G54 setup as my base router (connected to the modem), the router sees quite a bit of traffic, non-stop torrents, VoIP, QoS enabled, which gives the following memory status:

    Total/Free Memory: 14.19 MB / 1,820.00 KB (12.53%)

Linked with WDS to this WHR-HP-G54 is a version 1.1 WRT-54GS, on that the memory status is:

    Total/Free Memory: 30.03 MB / 22.44 MB (74.71%)

I don't really need the extra range (I only bought the WHR-HP as eveyone on the DD-WRT forum said it was the best router for 3rd party firmware, over a year ago), the WDS takes are of that, so with that, would putting the Linksys WRT54GS as the main router to do all the hard work improve QoS performance??.

WHR-HP-G54 uses a slightly newer, faster cpu compared to the WRT54GS v1.1. It shouldn't make a difference unless you've got very fast internet access. If cpu usage is unusually high, then it's time to upgrade.
