Im in college and i set me router up to my school's network in my dorm. I have a little outlet in my dorm that has an ourput for an etherent cable, so thats the situation (i have been using the internet for about a week now, i just want a router now)

so i put the CD in my laptop and everything is hooked up right and i go through all the steps to step#9. power, WLAN, INTERNET, and one of the ports are all green lighted..

so i get to step#9 -- the step right after "check the router's status" -- and i click next and a box comes up saying

"checking your computer settings, please wait.."

i wait for it to get to 100% and then just a plain box pops up asking me for a password, no user name or anything, just a green and gray box that says "please enter your password" there is already a default password in the box and its 5 letters long.. so i just click next and it goes to

"checking your computer settings, please wait.." AGAIN

it goes to 100, then the password box shows up again???!!!

i have typed in a bunch of diff password and it just goes through the same steps!!

so i then i unplug everything and go to and it asks for a user name and password, i leave the user name blank and then type in "admin" for the password, and it doesn't let me through!! i tried like 5 times, do i need to certain password from my school's network or somthing? why cant i just the user name blank and then "admin" for the password???

thanks alot for taking the time to help me out!!!! so it looks like i got those two questions!!

try letting the router boot up and holding down the reset button at the back for about 30 seconds to restore defaults.
