    Hi all,
I'm totally new to networking but I've been trying all day to setup my new WRT54GS and boy am I frustrated by it all.
Here's what I'm trying to do.
I've had a broadband connection thru a Zyxel Prestige 623 modem/router and I want to share the connection with another desktop and my laptop using the WRT54GS.

Using the quickguide the configuration procedure seemed simple enough but on restarting my PC I still had no connection to the internet. I then decided to try using the supplied wizard on the CD-ROM and having checked that I had an active internet connection I started the wizard which completed but annouced that my PC was not connected to the internet (which just wasn't correct).
So after reading how easy this router was to set up I must admit to feeling totally fed up trying this and that and the other!
So can some of you guys please help?

Here how my cables are connected:
The ethernet cable from my modem goes to the internet socket on the WRT54GS.
Another ethernet cable connects my PC to Socket 1 on the WRT54GS.
But no internet connection now shows on the modem.

Am I missing something or could I have wrong settings in the configuration process?

    Any ideas much appreciated,

What PC operating system are you using?
Does your Internet Service Provider require "MAC Address Cloning" of your ADSL modem, a NIC on one of your computers, or some other component?
What happens when you type into your web browser?
What modem are you trying to use with your WRT54GS?

Are you trying to use your "Zyxel Prestige 623 modem/router" as your modem, or are you using a dedicated (non-router) modem? The default IP addresses of the Zyxel and the WRT54GS are the same (, and this causes a problem. There are solutions....
