WRT54GS statistics: wireless errors and resends?

I setup a WDS bridge with two WRT54GS boxes to connect two LANs (no wireless clients, only wired clients), the firmware is Alchemy 6.0rc4a.

The wireless link is running at full speed (54Mbps), but I only get a throughput of about 12Mbps.

Any idea on what could be wrong?

Is there any way to access the WRT54 statistics and check out the wireless errors and resends? What about MAC level errors?

WDS will halve the throughput as it needs to double transmit the data. 802.11b/g are half duplex which means
only one side is transmitting at a time. WDS means double transmissions must take place and effectively
    halves the bandwidth.

There are no wireless clients connected to my WRT54GS boxes, so I don't see why the bandwidth should be cut in half.
