Please forgive me if this question been asked before.

I am happly owing the WRT54GS v1.1 since years back and was working fine with Thibor firware all the while without any problems connected to a cable modem.

But lately my brother moving back staying with me and he brought in another router Dlink DGL4300. And since it came with gigabit lan, I decided to use it as a gateway out to the internet. As for the WRT54GS, I decided to make it WDS and put it up to second floor for my parent which will connect it PC via wired to WRT54GS.

The Dlink 4300 came with WDS function by default (fw:1.7), and I tried various way of the config for the WRT54GS to connect to the Dlink all failed.

On the WRT54GS wireless device page, I could see the mac id appear for the Dlink but I was not able to ping to the router and same thing applied to Dlink not able to ping to WRT54GS. But If i were to use 2nd DLink 4300 (from a friend of mine), I jave no problems creating a WDS for both of them.

Is there something I can do to make the WRT54GS connect to the Dlink? Or WRT54GS are not able to form WDS with another router maker?

By the way, I already disbaled all mac filtering, WPA....and both router mac ID are in the respective WDS config page.

I am very much appreicate someone can give me a pointer to help me on this issue.

    Thank you.

i've used wds with a Linksys and a Draytek router, which worked just fine. can't say one way or another regarding D-Link though. it's generally unsupported; if it works, fine; but if it doesn't...tough. that seems to be the general consensus regarding wds across brands.
