I bought a WRT54GS from CompUSA today and apparently is v2.1 (per label CGN5...). I want to use it in client mode with WPA.

Has anyone successfully done this with a v2.1?

Yes its supported by Talisman. You could also try DD-WRT v22 or even Alchemy 1.0 afaik. Usually the firmware readme says which routers are supported.

Check your S/N & model again and Talisman support

HateEarthlink, I would suggest you take a look to ensure that someone didn't swap out routers and return hardware on you. I'm assuming you got a sealed box. Reason I say is serial #'s starting with CGN5 are v3.0 hardware, and not v2.1 as you state. Check the MAC on the box with your MAC in the unit.

I recently purchased three GS v2.1 (CGN4) units, and was hoping to mesh them up with a little power boost. I subscribed to Sveasoft, and was hoping to hear a bit more than "they are supported" from the forums.

TheIndividual, I'd like to see where you find that they are supported, as I have found NOTHING that "offcially" supports the v2.1 or v3.0 hardware yet from Alchemy/Talisman. I'd like to know if someone has actually loaded it on v2.1+ hardware. Just worried about having three brand new bricks.
