On openwrt wiki it says some WRT54GS v4.0 have 4MB/16MB, and some have 8MB/32MB.

Is it possible to tell which model you have from the box serial number? Eg does anyone have a confirmed 8MB/32MB WRT54GS v4.0 they could tell us the serial # of? would also be useful to know if higher serial #'s have 4/16.

From everything I've seen, here and at other forums, the V4 appears to be a 16/4 unit, identical to the WRT54G V4 and the WRT54GS.

Maybe there are 32MB GS V4's and maybe there aren't. But with as many typos as I see in the single sentence asserting it... I can't imagine it's been heavily researched by someone who can't be bothered to type it up properly. ;)

Seriously, maybe there are, but no one I've ever heard of has seen one in the wild.

It would be much safer to assume that ALL v4 WRT54GS's are of the 16/4 variety. Like NateHoy said, we haven't seen proof of any 32/8 units even though they may exist. The design specs for the v4 call for 16/4 and anything else would just be a fluke.

If you're looking to find one in the store, you won't be able to tell the difference without opening up the package, and either opening up the router itself to look at the chips or powering it up and telneting in...

If you're in the market for a WRT54GS, try to find a v3. Check our autopsy guide to find the the serial numbers that would correspond with 32/8 combinations in the WRT54GS hardware versions.

so it looks like 8/32 openwrt-compatible APs are no longer being manufactured by anyone... the only 8/32's left are those already stocked on shelves...

    sux... :sadbye:
