WRT54GX - How to override US firmware with EU firmware?

I live in Denmark and recently purchased a WRT54GX with US firmware installed.

After speaking at length with both Linksys Support and the vendor I bought the router from, I am now convinced that my router should have been delivered with EU firmware pre-installed.

Naturally I sent back the router and got a replacement..Which also had the US firmware installed!

Now, instead of sending the hardware back _again_ I am now desperately trying to flash it with the latest EU firmware

However, neither the web-interface nor TFTP will accept an overwrite of US with EU firmware.

    - TFTP because apparently the firmware file is too big (tried it with both US and EU files, both of which failed)

    - The webinterface fails, because I think it verifies the existing firmware version and compares it with EU one (and then tells me "bad image").

I can upgrade from US ver 2.0.05 to US 2.0.08 just fine. But I am having no luck with the EU version.

Reason I am trying to force an overwrite is two-fold:

    1. I'd like to be able to use the full channel set
    2. I have a problem with VPN that may be solved if I use the proper EU version of the firmware (says Linksys Support)

Any hints on how to force such an overwrite through?

You cannot do this. If your firmware is v2.x.x then your router is a WRT54GX ver2. Firmware v1.x.x is for model WRT54GX ver1 only. You cannot flash ver2 hardware with ver1 firmware.
