Okay folks, I did my homework by searching the forums, Googling, etc...and I'm still slightly confused. I hoping a kind lad can point me in the right direction.

Here's what I'm looking to do:
I want to access my USB hard drive attached to my WRTSL54GS, from outside my network, as securely as possible. I can easily get in via FTP, but I read that this is "very bad" as far as security goes. (on a side note, when I change the FTP port on the router to anything other than 21, I can no longer connect. Yes, I change the port on my FTP client to match).

Right now, I just want to remotely connect to the attached hard drive. In the future, I plan on connecting a NAS box via Ethernet.

    I'm using Thibor's v15 firmware.

Any suggestions on where I should begin reading? Thanks for any tips!

Wouldn't it be more useful, to post this in HyperWRT forum?

I have a NAS NSLU2 from Linksys. To securely connect to my HHD via my NSLU2, I use ssh or VPN connect to my router, then ftp to my NAS. Traffic going over ssh are encrypted and secure. You can google for ssh for more information.
