This is not new (credits for original mod to albertr here) but it's too good and easy not to deserve its own thread.

Adding a second USB port to WRTSL54GS is simply a matter of removing the existing one and soldering a dual, stacked one. Looking for the part ? Search your favorite part supplier for a dual, Type A, stacked, right-angled female USB connector... or grab one from any dead motherboard lying around.

The bottom connector fits straight with the current hole in the case. Of course, a case modification is required to access the top connector.

    Why bother?

Why bother with a soldering job if you can get by with a small hub?
I am using that way and it's fine.

it's a convenience thing...and also so you can say "my SL has 2 usb ports, not one..."

I am down with giving the credit and saying job well done, but convenience is a perception. As it is much more convenient for me to just ad the hub then to pull the case apart and solder. But i do have to admit its pretty cool.

I already did this mod to my home router. It is actually quite handy to be able to plug in a flash drive and still have a port left over for other devices, without having to futz with a hub. Sorry no pix don't want to open it up again. I will probably do another one later this week will take a picture then, but it's not that exciting to look at really....
