How can I edit and save (keeping the changes) from smb.conf file?
I have edited the file /tmp/samba/lib/smb.conf to set the dos charset to cp850. After exit from vi, if I open the file again, the changes are ok. But whensamba is restarted file switch back to the one before the edit.

    In time: running thibor 17rc3

    Thanks in advance.

It is re-written from code, so can't be done that way.

In a personal build, I added a bit of code in that area that would write the value of a nvram variable near the top of the file when it is created. Then I simply set the nvram variable to the text line(s) I wanted to insert.

Perhaps Thibor could be convinced to add something similar in a future build...

I also vaguely recall someone posting a method of modifying smb.conf via the "firewall script" (?) - apparently it runs at just the right time...

I think it was over in the hyperwrt forum (which I haven't been able to get to for a while).
