let's have it. Information posted here is going to be made available to a friend of mine who writes for "Linux Journal" magazine. He's doing an expose on the issues and lack of support for the WRV54G. On the other side of the coin, Simon and J.D. are ringing bells also to get some more filler information.

In the meantime, post "ALL" of the issues you can with this unit to create more awareness...

Well my complaint is that when I purchased this router there was absolutely no indication on the box that it would not fully work when using platforms other than Windows 2000/XP.

It said that I could connect travelling users to my network but it did not mention that to get it to fully work (ie cross a NAT which quite a few travelling users are often behind) you'd need Linksys software that was only designed to run on the above software.

As for the support it's as if they've finished produced the wrv54g, moved on to something else and are not bothering to support it.

Logging feature doesnt work correctly reguardless of firmware version . Stops logging after 24 hrs & takes a reboot to fix the issue .

Initial release version EU2.10 & US version 2.10 allow logins with no password or username on my US model .

    My complaints:

The number of times I've seen the phrase, "sounds like a firmware bug to me...." in this forum.

I've heard stories of Tech Support telling users that they should try the Beta Firmware and that it will be sent to them. If the Beta Firmware is SO great, it would be available on the Linksys website, and it WOULDN'T be BETA Firmware....

Tech support has NO idea what's going on. The best support you can expect to get is from forums like this one. The fact that this one is as successful as it is and that it’s PACKED with more users with problems than users with answers, says a lot about a deficient Tech Support.

Now that I have one of these, I have a couple of gripes.

    1. No AES ecryption! This is supposed to be a premium router?
    2. No Static DHCP.
    3. No QoS.

The things like NAT-T and GRE support should be there also, but if some of the basic features of the WRT level routers aren't there, how could you expect any of the more complicated ones. I would have been really happy with a BEFVP41 with 802.11G access point boult in, but this thing is very poorly supported from what I have been able to determine in the week that I have had mine.

So how is the Linksys pressure doing so far, I really haven't heard of any "Linux Journal" article so far? (I know, give it a little time :D )

I've got to email my contact and see where he is with the article; he was having a little brain lock with it the last time I talked with him (he was trying not to rant).

    locking up now

Bought the wrv54G in November. Lately it has been locking up more and more frequently. It is now locking up at least once a day. cycling the power restores operation but that is not an acceptable piece of hardware. I am looking for a VPN enabled wireless router that works.

I personally don't get how you guys (with the exception of Taz and myself) have all these problems with your WRV54G.

What type of problems are you having establishing a basic connection, because I'm running quickvpn over a 2mb down/288 kbps up connection and I connect and map drives to include use a remote administration tool without issue. In addition to that, I run a linksys RT31P2 VOIP router off of it and it works with no problems, also. I've got a static ip right now, but when I had dynamic ip address back in the states (courtesy of COX high speed internet) I could still get connections to my WRV54G.

It's either the firmware, the settings, your isp, or something you guys as users "might" be overlooking because a good 'ole case of "pissed off" may be taking precedence :)

Without sounding like a spokesman, the WRV54G has lost a great deal of my free support because of lacking NAT-T and GRE, but "it does work" once you get it right...
