WUSB11 won't do...anything?

I just bought a Linksys WUSB11 and after installing the drivers automatically, its supposedly, according to the manual,
    "The Windows XP Wireless Zero
    Configuration icon will appear
    in your computer’s system tray.
    Double-click the icon."

I don't get that icon, I get an icon with a PC with the wireless signals coming out and a lovely red cross.
When I double click the icon, I get "No wireless connections were found in range", even though the adapters plugged in.

(Have I gone horribly wrong and bought the wrong thing? I'm trying to make my wired internet have a wifi access point so I can go online with my Wii and such)

Any help would be lovely

Edit: After more searching, I think I did buy the wrong thing, as I have wired internet, or am I wrong? Also, if it is the wrong thing...what is the right thing I need?

You still need a wireless router connected to your wired Internet to provide a wireless network to your wireless adapter.

Wi-Fi does not give you wireless broadband; it gives you a wireless local network which happens to also have an Internet access at the other end. If you need wireless broadband on the go wherever you are, you need to contact your mobile phone service provider about their 2G/EDGE/3G mobile broadband options and charging rates.
