I've read a reference or two that mention including an "x" in the Pre-shared Key. Could someone please explain why?

I stated that because with the WAG54G Firmware 1.01.6 (or at least with mine), it had an issue establishing a tunnel or vpn client connection if some form of hexadecimal wasn't used. In the end, I found that just by including "x" in the preshared key (ie., linksysx1234), I was able to get the connection going.

It works for me, but the firmware version may be deciding factor in the end.

So not something I should worry about when using a couple WRV54Gs....?

Not in particular, but if you have a problem getting the tunnels running, it's something you can try on the off chance :)
